Why winter is a great time to buy a holiday lodge!

How and why purchasing a second home in the off-peak season could be the best value for money, and give you more freedom and less stress in the whole process.

Seasonal reductions

Holiday parks will often have a sale of their holiday home stock before they release new models in the new year, making this a great option for anyone who has been wanting a holiday home, but isn’t too fussed about a few extra bells and whistles.

Some lodge parks will also offer discounts around this time of year, ranging from reduced prices, free furnishings, or even free perks that would usually cost you if you’re buying in peak season.

Less competition

With more people planning to buy in spring and summer and starting the process in those months, late autumn and winter is a great time to buy without the added stress of bidding wars (that can also hike up the price a significant amount).

This quieter period also means that sellers are open to more negotiations and estate agents can give you extra attention – whether that is providing flexible viewing times that fit around your schedule, or swiftly getting back to any of your queries. Overall, the acquisition process is much quicker in this period.

Perspective

Not only can you view properties in your own time, but viewing in winter provides an opportunity to understand how the property fares in the harsher season – which is especially important if you want to use it year round.

Is it well insulated? Is the heating effective? Will you be happy and comfortable here in the cold? Buying in summer can make you forget these factors, but you definitely don’t when the chill is fresh in your mind!

Make the most out of your winter holiday

Buying your holiday home before Christmas gives you the option to enjoy it right away.  Many holiday parks host a range of fun festive entertainment that the whole family can enjoy, making for a lovely, easy getaway in the school holidays.

Assuming you plan to spend your summer there, the time off in the winter holidays can also be a great time to make your second home truly feel like home. Whether that’s finding the perfect furniture, decorating, buying board games, or making sure you have a picnic blanket and walking shoes waiting for you in the cupboard: having several months before the sunshine allows you to do all of this at a leisurely pace, but it can also make for a fun family activity during the Christmas break!

Renting

Finally, if you plan to rent out your second home, then winter is definitely the time to buy, as it allows you to get it ready to be put on the market during peak seasons.

Buying in winter gives you the freedom to plan your own use of the property, and plenty of time to make some money back in the time you’re not there.

If you’ve been considering buying, now is the time to get ahead of the game. Starting the process now will not only make your money go further, but help you stay relaxed in what can be a stressful process. Moreover, the sooner you do, the sooner you’re there: enjoying a glass of wine on the deck after a serene walk in nature in the crisp fresh air…
