Are you a couple of clicks away from a dream getaway in one of our holiday lodges across the UK, but nervous about what it means for your pet?

The good news is that there are many pet friendly lodges for sale or rent and the one you're eyeing probably has all the facilities your furry companion needs to have a holiday of their own! However, just to make sure - here is all the information you need to stop stressing about a dog-sitter and start finding the perfect pet friendly holiday park.

There are plenty of reasons to choose a dog-friendly lodge park – and it’s not just about saving money on a sitter. Many parks go the extra mile for four-legged guests, with thoughtful touches like dog wash stations, perfect for cleaning off muddy paws after a countryside walk.

If your dog is like ours and an early riser, mornings quickly turn into full days spent exploring nearby nature trails or visiting pet-friendly restaurants and bars together. A pet is always a good conversation starter, if you’re looking to socialise too!

There’s a not-so-fine line between dog tolerant and genuinely dog friendly, so facilities like pet friendly spaces are what to look out for when searching for a truly pooch friendly park. Don’t just look for listings that specify their accommodations allow pets, but ones that also mention dog exercise areas, or even agility courses.

If your dog has special requirements like medication they need daily, or they’re an older pup who needs extra care on walks, it's hard to trust a sitter or a kennel. You know your dog better than anyone and by bringing them with you, you can sleep better knowing they are comfortable and getting everything including your love and care they need.

Be sure to check out the park rules before you get there. Dogs usually have to be on leads in certain zones and restricted from others, and, of course, you must clean up after them. Most parks also have breed restrictions and those listed on the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 will not be permitted. Investigate this before booking, as well as how many dogs are allowed, if you’re lucky to have more than one!

Now you’ve established whether your park of choice is suitable, make sure the lodge or cabin itself has characteristics that will make your vacation as stress free as possible. A mudroom or carpetless floors for easy cleaning, a dog bed in a quiet area, enclosed decks and gardens with accessible entrances, are just some of the things you might want to look out for. Lastly, write down the nearest vet to your stay, just to be on the safe side.

Now you know what to look for, you can be confident in your search that will make  unforgettable memories for you and your faithful companion - just don’t forget their doggy bag!
